tom

tom curren decided to play some tunes at his ripcurl shop on friday. i swung by to hang out for a bit. tom is one of a few, who actually are, true artists/surfers. he is a thinker. he is a great dad. he is a traveler. he is creative. he is someone who charts his own course. and he happens to be one of the most influential surfers of all time. yet, tom doesn’t let that get in his way. he is authentic and soulful through and through. click on the play button below to listen to a sample of tom’s fluid and freeform musical style. i recorded this on fri in the shop (while the recording quality isn’t great, it’s definitely worth checking out).

date with my sophia

the above photos were taken by my youngest daughter sophia while we were on a date last weekend. first, we went to our favorite restaurant on the beach. then we went to visit the baby goats and chickens at a local hay/feed store. finally, we capped it off by getting some ice cream at mcconnells. she ordered rainbow sherbet with sprinkle covered chocolate chips. needless to say, we had a wonderful time.

tide

this morning, i was once again thinking about joyce tenneson’s visit to brooks. her words were honest and hope-filled. her presence was like an incoming tide that brought buoyancy to otherwise stationary vessels.
i hope you enjoy this portrait.
joyce tenneson

this is a portrait of joyce tenneson from last week. she came to brooks (where i teach) for a visit and i had the privilege of sitting down and talking with her for a while. her approach and perspective on photography was absolutely inspiring. to see some of her work click here
