annika

last week i dropped off a roll of film that had been sitting around for a while. i didn’t remember when or what it was used for. i just opened up the scans and this was the surprise that i found – a quiet moment of my daughter annika leaning on a playground fence. to fully experience this picture you have to click on it to view it larger in order to absorb all of the texture and film grain. i still find myself moved by the exquisite quality of film…  and this isn’t about film vs digital – i embrace all types of photography. rather its about savoring moments before they slip away. i’ll post a few more pics from this roll (which was from an early morning walk with annika) over the next couple of days.

awkward and authentic – the perfect combo?

it’s official! my latest book, people pictures: 30 exercises to creating authentic photographs, is now shipping!!! so far it has made a great start right out of the gate and is currently the #1 best seller on amazon.com in the category of portrait photography!  click here to check it out. right behind it in spot #2 is a humorous book titled awkward family photos. perhaps amazon should offer the two books as a bundle, kind of like a ying and yang, hot and cold, sweet and salty, awkward and authentic combo… what do you think?  ;)

if you have received your copy, i’d love to hear your thoughts! and thanks to all of you who have helped spread the word and especially to those of you who have picked up the book – i hope you enjoy it!

recording at lynda.com

this morning i started recording the final pieces of a new photography course at lynda.com. i can’t say much yet…  except, it has to do with being on location in texas as well as fine art and people photography.
wish me luck and we’ll see how the recording goes!
(thanks to the producer heather schuler for the behind the scenes iphone pic above)
