angus and his sister julia create some of my all time favorite music. if you aren’t familiar with it – click here(youtube) or here (the artist’s website).  angus is a really thoughtful, soulful, humble and authentic person. it was a great honor to have the privilege of capturing a few portraits of him. i hope you like them.

this is a photograph that was featured in my most recent book, people pictures. its a portrait of a man who has been a mentor and who has had a lasting impact on my life. in many ways, this is one of the most important pictures i have made. i decided to post this picture today as a way to remind you to take photographs of the people that matter most to you.

robert gupta is one of the most inspiring, kind and talented people i have ever met. he plays violin for the los angeles philharmonic and has given a powerful TED talk, “Music is Medicine, Music is Sanity.”

i know i said i was going to take a break from posting, but these are so fun that i couldn’t help it. each year we set out the cookies and our entire family sits down to decorate – its a really fun and tasty holiday tradition! be sure to take pictures of your own holiday traditions this year!

one week ago my dad was facing a major health issue.

he made it through and i’m incredibly thankful he is still here.

sophia let’s me know that because its fall, grandpa’s garden flowers are all gone.

first and foremost, thanks for all the wonderful congratulations on the birth of elsie!! we are absolutely loving having her be part of our life – amazing!

I just got word that my latest book, People Pictures: 30 Exercises for Creating Authentic Photographs, has been printed and is on its way! It officially hits the shelves next week and I’ll be posting more as it gets closer. For now here are a few screen grabs of what it looks like on the inside.

i’ve always be interested in artist’s workshops and this one definitely drew me in. on the back wall of this painter’s workshop/studio he had displayed a intriguing collection of vintage items. this photo is just one small portion of a larger area. seeing this it has made me want to start a photo project creating portraits of artists and their space. if anyone knows someone who would be a good fit for the project, send me an email through the contact page – i would really appreciate it!  i’m super excited about this new project and appreciate any thoughts, leads or ideas!

i had the privilege of meeting up with photographer erik almas in san francisco to collaborate on a new project he is working on. at this point i can’t say too much, but i can say that it is going to be amazing! erik is a fascinating artist and person –  someone i admire. his approach to photography and life are inspiring. i made the portraits above at his home in sf. check out a few of his pictures below.
